Monster Go Pyraminx — beginner-friendly Pyraminx from the creators of GAN, without magnets
Monster Go Pyraminx is an entry-level Pyraminx from the sub-brand Monster Go (GAN). Instead of magnets, it uses plastic “stoppers”/bearings that provide a clicky layer fixation and help the layers self-align.
The puzzle measures about 96 × 96 × 96 mm and weighs around 60 g — it’s light, comfortable in the hand, and doesn’t tire you out during long practice sessions.
Who is this Pyraminx for
Level:
- complete beginners who are just getting to know the Pyraminx;
- kids and adults who want a proper beginner Pyraminx, not a random “supermarket toy”;
- casual cubers who like the “GAN feel” but don’t want to overpay for a flagship with magnets right away.
Age:
- roughly from 6–7 years and up;
- suitable for school-age children and adults — the shape and size are comfortable both for a smaller child’s hand and for an average hand.
Main uses:
- first steps in Pyraminx: learning basic algorithms and techniques;
- training logic, focus and spatial thinking;
- calm “off-screen” play at home or on the go;
- an inexpensive but high-quality gift for a child or a beginner cuber.
Turning feel
Monster Go Pyraminx turns smoothly and predictably, with a light click:
- turns are easy, the speed is fairly high for a training puzzle, but without being “insanely fast”;
- instead of magnets, it uses plastic balls/stoppers that snap into notches — this gives a soft mechanical click and clear layer fixation;
- the feel is more on the soft, controlled side rather than super sharp or ultra-aggressive.
This turning character is excellent for beginners and kids:
the Pyraminx doesn’t shoot out of your hands, makes it clear when a layer has reached its position, and doesn’t scare with excessive speed.
Magnets and adjustment
Magnets:
- this is a non-magnetic Pyraminx — there are no magnets inside;
- the “positioning” role is handled by plastic bearings/bumpers that create a clicky fixation.
Tension adjustment:
- classic screw-and-spring system under the center caps;
- if you wish, you can slightly tighten or loosen the tension with a small screwdriver;
- out of the box the Pyraminx is usually set up comfortably for a beginner — there is no need to adjust anything at first.
The idea of Monster Go is simple, beginner-friendly mechanics with no complex adjustment systems and no magnets, but with clear, understandable clicky layer positioning.
Stability and corner-cutting
For a beginner/budget puzzle, Monster Go Pyraminx offers good stability:
- the clicky bearings help layers stop in the correct positions and wander less;
- with reasonable turning, the Pyraminx confidently “forgives” small underturns, doesn’t try to fall apart and doesn’t lock up at every move;
- corner-cutting is not on the level of GAN flagships, but it is more than enough for learning and casual use.
Overall, the model is tuned for control and predictability, not for extreme corner-cutting and record times.
Size, weight, materials
- Size: about 96 × 96 × 96 mm — standard for modern Pyraminxes.
- Weight: around 60 g — a light Pyraminx that is comfortable for long practice sessions.
- Material: high-quality ABS plastic.
- Body: bright stickerless (coloured plastic without stickers) — nothing peels off, colours don’t wear away.
- Surface: usually slightly matte, with good grip — the Pyraminx doesn’t slip out of your hands.
What’s in the box
Typically, the box includes:
- Monster Go Pyraminx;
- Monster Go / GAN branded box (often simplified “light” packaging);
- a short leaflet or information sheet (most often in English/Chinese).
The Pyraminx comes factory-lubed and pre-tensioned, ready to use straight out of the box.
Key advantages
- Designed specifically for beginners and kids — friendly speed and overall feel.
- Non-magnetic, but with plastic bearings — clear clicky layer fixation without complicating the mechanism.
- Light and comfortable in the hand, suitable for long practice without significant fatigue.
- Bright stickerless body — colours are easy to read, nothing peels off.
- Easy to maintain: if needed, you can lightly tighten or loosen the tension.
Who it might not be ideal for / nuances
- For those already used to magnetic Pyraminxes and very strong auto-alignment, Monster Go may feel too simple and “ordinary” in terms of feel.
- If the goal is serious records and high-level competition results, it will eventually make sense to move on to more advanced magnetic models (such as GAN Pyraminx M).
- For fans of ultra-soft, “buttery” turning without clicks, the mechanical bearings may feel a bit “noisy” and too noticeable — after all, this is a training-oriented, not a flagship-level puzzle.
