How to Find a Speedcubing Competition (WCA)
If you want official competitions where your results will appear on your WCA profile, the most reliable source is the competition calendar on the World Cube Association website: worldcubeassociation.org/competitions
1) Start with the WCA calendar
On the WCA competitions page, you can search for upcoming competitions and view them on a map. This is helpful if you’re willing to travel to a nearby city/country and want to quickly judge distances.
Tips for easier searching
- Filter by region (for example, Europe) — to see only competitions in the area you care about.
- Search by name/city — if you already know where you want to compete.
- Use the map — to visually pick the “closest” option and see how dense competitions are nearby (on the same WCA calendar page).
2) Open the competition page and read it fully
The competition page is your main source of truth. It usually includes: venue address, schedule, events, registration rules, competitor limit, deadlines, fee, and payment method.
What to check first
- Competitor limit and Waiting list.
- Registration deadline — so you don’t miss it.
- Registration requirements, including payment.
3) Registration is usually “two parts”
For many competitions, registration is only considered complete after you finish all required steps — typically registering on the competition page + paying the fee (either through WCA or using the organizers’ instructions).
If the competitor limit is reached, you may be placed on the waiting list. Usually, spots open up in order when someone withdraws. Payment/refund rules and participation confirmation details are always described on the competition page.
4) Prepare for competition day in advance
After registering, check exactly where and when you need to be there. A practical rule: arrive early so you can get oriented, complete check-in (if there is one), and attend any newcomer briefing.
Where to follow “live” information during the competition
- WCA Live — the platform used for running rounds and posting live results: live.worldcubeassociation.org
-
Competition Groups — a service where groups and assignments are often published:
competitiongroups.com
Important: always follow organizer announcements too, because groups and times can change.
5) If there are no competitions near you
- Expand your search area: the nearest competition might be in a neighboring country or the capital.
- Check the calendar regularly: new competitions appear on the WCA site as they get approved.
- Follow the local community: regional chats/groups often discuss upcoming competitions in advance.
Mini checklist: “found a competition → ready to compete”
- Find a competition in the WCA calendar: worldcubeassociation.org/competitions
- Open the competition page and read: schedule, limit, deadlines, registration/payment rules.
- Register and complete all required steps (often: registration + payment).
- Check your status (accepted / waiting list) and follow organizer instructions.
- On competition day, arrive early and follow updates via WCA Live and on-site announcements.
