GAN Pyraminx M Core Positioning Standard — a lightweight magnetic Pyraminx with magnetic core
GAN Pyraminx M in the Core Positioning Standard version is a lightweight (about 64 g) magnetic Pyraminx with a magnetic core positioning system and the classic GAN honeycomb pattern on the internal surfaces.
It is designed for fast but controlled solves: magnets in the core and edges help the layers align by themselves, while the matte stickerless plastic provides a comfortable grip.
Who is this Pyraminx for
Level:
- beginner speedcubers who already know how to solve a 3×3 and want their first serious Pyraminx;
- casual and intermediate cubers who need a light and fast magnetic puzzle for practice;
- also suitable for more experienced players as a main or backup competition Pyraminx.
Age:
- school-age kids and adults; the standard Pyraminx size (about 96 mm edge length) is comfortable for medium and larger hands.
Main uses:
- timed practice and Pyraminx competitions;
- upgrading from cheap non-magnetic Pyraminxes to flagship level;
- a light “everyday” Pyraminx for those who solve a lot.
Turning feel
GAN Pyraminx M is known for its very light and smooth turning:
- thanks to the low weight, the puzzle practically “flies” on finger tricks, moves require very little effort;
- the honeycomb internal surface softens the feel, holds lube better and gives a characteristic “buttery” but not sluggish sensation;
- magnetic core positioning helps the layers snap cleanly into place, reducing overspins and small mistakes.
In terms of feel, this is a fast but fairly soft and controllable Pyraminx — not “blocky” or overly harsh.
Beginners appreciate how easy it is to turn, while advanced players enjoy the combination of speed and stability.
Magnets and adjustment
Magnetic system:
- the Core Positioning Standard version uses a core positioning system plus magnets in the edges (core–edge); there are 36 magnets in total;
- the magnets provide a noticeable but not excessive click: layers tend to align themselves, but the Pyraminx still feels light and fast.
Tension adjustment (GES):
- uses the proprietary GES/GES+ system — elastic nuts instead of regular springs;
- in the Standard version, a single set of GES nuts is pre-installed from the factory, with no extra sets in the box;
- you can fine-tune elasticity and tension to your liking, but without the complicated multi-level tweaking typical of top-end 3×3 cubes.
The idea of the Standard version is to offer a Pyraminx that is ready to use out of the box with sensible magnetic strength and basic adjustment, without extra accessories and extra cost.
Stability and corner-cutting (Pyraminx)
In terms of stability, GAN Pyraminx M behaves like a modern flagship:
- the effective corner-cutting is rated up to about 120° — it confidently “forgives” small misalignments and underturns;
- magnetic core positioning helps layers realign and keeps behaviour predictable even at high TPS;
- the honeycomb internal geometry reduces friction and lowers the chance of random lockups.
As a result, GAN Pyraminx M remains stable and controllable both for learning solves and for aggressive competition-style turning.
Size, weight, materials
- Size: about 96 × 96 × 96 mm (classic Pyraminx size).
- Weight: about 64–66 g — one of the lightest magnetic Pyraminxes on the market.
- Material: high-quality ABS plastic.
- Body: bright stickerless (coloured plastic without stickers) with a matte surface — good grip, and nothing to peel or fade.
- Internal surface: honeycomb structure for more even lube distribution and smoother turning.
What’s in the box
A typical GAN Pyraminx M Core Positioning Standard package includes:
- GAN Pyraminx M (Core Positioning Standard Edition);
- branded GAN box;
- a short instruction/solution leaflet (usually in English/Chinese).
In the Standard version there are no extra GES nuts or additional magnetic parts — everything is already installed and ready to use.
Key advantages
- Very light magnetic Pyraminx — your hand gets less tired during long practice sessions.
- Magnetic core positioning + core–edge magnets — fast turning with confident auto-alignment of layers.
- Honeycomb internals — smooth rotation and longer-lasting lubrication.
- Matte stickerless body with good grip and bright colours.
- Simple packaging and basic setup — take it out of the box and solve immediately, without spending hours on accessories.
Who it might not be ideal for / nuances
- For those who like very strong magnetic feel and maximum auto-alignment, the Standard version may seem too soft — in that case, the Enhanced Core Positioning version (60 magnets) is a better match.
- If you want to experiment with multiple GES nut sets right out of the box, the Explorer/Enhanced versions are more appropriate — Standard has only one pre-installed set.
- For an absolute beginner who has never used a speed puzzle, the lightness and speed of GAN Pyraminx M may initially feel a bit “too sharp” — in some cases it makes sense to start with a simpler, slower training Pyraminx and only then move up to a flagship GAN.
