ShengShou Magnetic Clock V2 — new fully magnetic budget clock with 224 magnets, a true competitor to the QiYi Clock

ShengShou Magnetic Clock V2 is ShengShou’s new-generation clock, designed as a direct competitor to the QiYi Magnetic Clock. It features a fully magnetic mechanism with a total of 224 magnets — magnets are placed in the pins as well as in the individual clock gears. This gives precise alignment, stable turning and clear magnetic clicks on every move.

The size is standard for a WCA-style clock: roughly 103.5 × 103.5 × 22.5 mm with a weight of about 122 g. It feels light but not hollow, and fits comfortably in both hands. The black-and-white face design keeps the dial markings highly readable, even at a glance.

Compared to the original ShengShou clock, V2 has a redesigned internal structure and upgraded magnet layout, so it performs well right out of the box without requiring heavy modding, disassembly or complicated setup.

Who is ShengShou Magnetic Clock V2 for

Recommended skill level:

  • beginners who already know how to solve Clock and want their first magnetic clock on a budget;
  • intermediate and advanced solvers who practice Clock seriously;
  • competitive cubers looking for a reliable, affordable main for training and competitions;
  • anyone who likes the QiYi Clock but prefers slightly lighter magnet strength.

Best suited for:

  • daily practice and algorithm drilling;
  • training and competing at WCA events;
  • pushing averages and PBs without spending flagship-level money.

Design and magnet system

  • Fully magnetic clock — magnets in both pins and gears/dials, for a total of 224 magnets, provide strong, accurate positioning and a clear magnetic snap.
  • Redesigned internal geometry — the V2 structure offers more stable turns and reduced play compared with the earlier ShengShou clock.
  • Moderate magnet strength — noticeably lighter than on the QiYi Clock, which many users find more comfortable for long sessions and high-TPS turning.
  • Comfortable form factor — real puzzle size of about 103.5 mm per side and ~22.5 mm thickness makes it easy to grip and control with both hands.
  • Classic look — a black “mask” with clear white markings makes it easy to read dial positions when you’re solving at speed.

Turning feel and setup

  • Slightly sandy out of the box — early impressions describe V2 as a bit sandy at first, then quickly breaking in to become very smooth while retaining a light, textured feel.
  • Clear but not harsh clicks — magnetic feedback is strong enough to help you stop precisely on the intended tick, without feeling overly stiff or punchy.
  • Stable at high TPS — the design handles aggressive turning and simultaneous moves well, making it a solid choice for fast, advanced Clock techniques.
  • Ready to go with minimal tuning — a bit of lube to taste is usually enough; you don’t need heavy modding to reach high performance.

Who might not like it

  • people who just want the cheapest non-magnetic clock to casually try the event;
  • cubers who strongly prefer very powerful magnets and the firmest possible click feel (QiYi-style);
  • those who are not price-sensitive and only want the most premium flagship regardless of cost.
