Rubik’s Cube 6×6 QiYi QiFan S2 (EQY815) — budget 6×6 for confident, stable practice

QiYi QiFan S2 6×6 is an updated version of QiYi’s budget 6×6. It is a non-magnetic speed cube with a bright stickerless body, smooth turning and a focus on stability.
The cube measures about 64.5 × 64.5 × 64.5 mm and weighs around 160–165 g — it feels solid and reliable in the hand, but not excessively heavy, which is important for long sessions.

Who is this cube for

Level:

  • beginners who already solve 3×3 and 4×4 confidently and want their first proper 6×6;
  • intermediate casual cubers who need an inexpensive workhorse 6×6 for regular practice;
  • experienced speedcubers as a training/backup cube that you’re not afraid to “turn for hours”.

Age:

  • school-age kids and adults; a size of around 64–65 mm is comfortable for medium and larger hands.

Main uses:

  • first 6×6 practice sessions and getting familiar with big cubes;
  • training parity cases and advanced algorithms;
  • relaxed daily solves “for fun”;
  • an inexpensive but quite serious 6×6 for a collection or as a gift.

Turning feel

QiFan S2 6×6 provides a smooth and relatively soft turning feel with a focus on control:

  • outer layers turn easily and evenly, without strong “grittiness” or frequent catches;
  • by feel, it’s not a super-fast “racer”, but rather a stable, predictable cube — it provokes fewer overspins and mistakes;
  • with decent turning technique the cube accelerates nicely on finger tricks, but overall tends to “keep itself together” instead of flying around like magnetic flagships.

For a 6×6 beginner this is a plus: the cube doesn’t scare you with excessive speed, and more advanced players can use it as a comfortable training option.

Magnets and adjustment

Magnetisation:

  • QiFan S2 is a non-magnetic 6×6; there is no magnetic layer alignment inside;
  • layer positioning is provided entirely by the piece geometry and proper tensioning.

Tension adjustment:

  • classic screw-and-spring system under the center caps;
  • you can tighten or loosen the tension with a small screwdriver;
  • no complex dual-adjust systems, numerical nuts, etc. — everything is as clear and easy to service as possible.

The concept of the model is a simple, easy-to-maintain cube that performs well straight out of the box and can be easily fine-tuned if needed.

Stability and inner layer behaviour (6×6)

For big cubes it’s very important how the inner layers behave, and this is one of QiFan S2’s strengths:

  • the inner layers are set slightly tighter than the outer ones — this helps the cube keep its shape and reduces random misalignments;
  • with careful turning, the inner layers move smoothly enough and are not much slower than the outers;
  • thanks to the stable feel and controlled turning, the cube “falls apart” from inaccurate moves less than many older budget 6×6 models.

With a very aggressive turning style light catches are possible, but within its price range QiFan S2 is considered one of the more stable non-magnetic 6×6 cubes.

Size, weight, materials

  • Size: about 64.5 × 64.5 × 64.5 mm — slightly more compact than older “brick-like” 6×6 cubes, more comfortable for average and fast grips.
  • Weight: around 160–165 g — the cube feels confident and reliable, but doesn’t become a heavy “dumbbell” for your hand.
  • Material: durable ABS plastic designed for frequent use.
  • Colours and surface: bright stickerless plastic (coloured plastic without stickers) with good contrast between faces; the outer surface is smooth but not overly slippery.

What’s in the box

A typical QiYi QiFan S2 6×6 package includes:

  • QiYi QiFan S2 6×6 (EQY815) cube;
  • branded cardboard or plastic box;
  • small leaflet/instruction sheet (usually in English/Chinese).

The cube comes pre-assembled and lightly lubed, ready to use straight out of the box; you can add more lube and slightly adjust the tension later if you wish.

Key advantages

  • Affordable 6×6 — a good first big cube after 4×4.
  • Smooth, soft turning focused on control rather than “insane” speed.
  • Stable inner-layer behaviour — fewer random lockups and misalignments.
  • Comfortable size and weight — easy to hold and turn for long periods.
  • Simple, understandable construction without complex adjustment systems — easy to recommend to children and beginners.

Who it might not be ideal for / nuances

  • For those who specifically want a magnetic 6×6 with auto-alignment and a more aggressive character, QiFan S2 will feel too simple — it’s a non-magnetic budget option.
  • Athletes chasing records and maximum TPS will eventually want a faster and more advanced 6×6 flagship.
  • For people not used to big cubes at all, the size and number of layers can feel “noisy” at first — sometimes it makes sense to get comfortable with a 4×4 before moving up to 6×6.
