MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3 Standard — the non-magnetic YS3M base model for first solves and everyday practice
MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3 Standard is the non-magnetic version of the popular YS3M cube, developed in collaboration with world record holder Yusheng Du. It uses the same modern design as the magnetic versions, but without magnets inside — which makes it more affordable and very suitable as a first cube or a reliable training workhorse.
The cube offers soft, fairly fast turning and solid corner-cutting for its class, while staying simple to maintain and very familiar in feel — a classic mechanical cube without magnetic clicks.
Who is this cube for
Skill level:
- complete beginners who want to start with a quality but not expensive 3×3;
- casual and intermediate cubers who don’t necessarily need a magnetic feel;
- schools, clubs and classes that need reliable cubes for working with kids and groups.
Age:
- children from about 7–8 years old — the cube is light, not overly stiff and comfortable for smaller hands;
- teens and adults who want a “proper” modern cube without paying extra for magnets;
- suits families as a shared cube that everyone can use.
Main use cases:
- learning how to solve 3×3 for the first time using sheets or video tutorials;
- daily practice and fidgeting at home, school or on the go;
- training in clubs and camps where cubes pass through many hands;
- a backup training cube alongside your main magnetic flagship.
Turning feel
- turning is soft and reasonably fast straight out of the box;
- the feel is more “classic” — no magnetic click or slight auto-alignment from magnets;
- the cube accelerates nicely and stays predictable if your turning is reasonably accurate;
- sound is moderately quiet without harsh rattling — suitable at home and in classrooms;
- after basic lubing and tensioning, the turning becomes even smoother.
Overall, HuaMeng YS3M Standard feels like a modern non-magnetic cube: fast, pleasant and beginner-friendly, yet lively enough for more serious practice.
Stability and corner-cutting
- forward corner-cutting at a solid modern training level — it handles common misalignments well;
- reverse corner-cutting is there, though a bit less “forgiving” than on top magnetic flagships;
- with reasonable setup, the cube doesn’t fall apart in your hands or “chew” layers;
- piece shapes and internal design help reduce pops under normal turning.
Size, weight, materials
- Size: standard 3×3 (about 55–56 mm) — a familiar format for most cubers;
- Weight: lighter than many magnetic models, which is nice for kids and long sessions;
- Shell: high-quality stickerless plastic with bright, high-contrast shades;
- Surface: secure grip — the cube doesn’t slip easily with a normal hold.
Key advantages of MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3 Standard
- modern YS3M design without magnets — simpler, cheaper, but still with very nice turning;
- great option for learning and first serious practice sessions;
- light, predictable behaviour — it won’t scare beginners with “too much speed”;
- ideal for schools, clubs and as a spare training cube;
- strong price-to-performance ratio within the YS3M lineup.
Who it may not suit / nuances
- competition cubers used to top magnetic flagships with core magnets and MagLev;
- those who really enjoy strong magnetic clicks and maximum stability at very high TPS;
- if you specifically want a “grow-with-you” cube with magnets from day one, the magnetic YS3M version is a better fit.
MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3 Standard is an excellent entry point into modern cubes: affordable, pleasant to turn and robust enough to stay your school and training 3×3 for a long time.
