ShengShou Magnetic Clock — the first mass-produced magnetic clock, budget option with magnetized pins

ShengShou Magnetic Clock is ShengShou’s classic clock and the first mass-produced magnetic clock on the market. It uses a magnetic pin stabilization system: each pin contains magnets that lock it in the up or down position, making the puzzle noticeably more comfortable to use than older non-magnetic clocks.

The puzzle keeps a traditional clock shape with a black front plate and clear, high-contrast dial markings. Its dimensions are roughly 110 × 110 × 22–30 mm with a weight of about 115–120 g, so it feels light but not hollow and fits nicely in both hands for two-handed grips.

Inside, the clock uses a magnetic stabilization system that provides tactile, clicky feedback when turning the wheels and operating the pins. This makes the puzzle more predictable and enjoyable for practice, especially if you’re coming from a completely non-magnetic clock.

Who is ShengShou Magnetic Clock for

Recommended skill level:

  • beginners who already know how to solve Clock and want their first magnetic clock;
  • casual and budget-conscious speedcubers looking for a practical training puzzle;
  • people entering the Clock event who don’t want to invest in a high-end flagship yet;
  • collectors interested in the historically first stock magnetic Clock.

Best suited for:

  • daily practice and learning basic to intermediate Clock algorithms;
  • early attempts at local competitions, if you don’t have a more advanced model yet;
  • moving up from old non-magnetic clocks like LingAo or Rubik’s brand.

Design and magnet system

  • Magnetized pins — magnets inside the pins keep them firmly in the up/down position so they don’t wobble or move accidentally during solves.
  • Classic competition shell — standard 9-dial layout with four pins on each side, fully compatible with WCA rules.
  • Magnetic stabilization — the pin-based stabilization system gives a more confident feel on every move and reduces random mistakes.
  • Screw-accessible front panel — the clear face is held by four screws, so you can safely open the clock for light lubrication and maintenance without breaking any seals.
  • Compact and lightweight — about 110 mm per side and just over 100 g in weight, comfortable for both kids and adults and easy on the hands during long sessions.

Turning feel and setup

  • Clicky, tactile response — wheel turns and pin moves give clear clicks, helping you stop exactly on the intended tick.
  • Dry out of the box — many users report that it feels somewhat dry at first; after a bit of lube and break-in, the turning becomes noticeably smoother.
  • Moderate stability — more than enough for basic and intermediate practice, but in terms of smoothness and lock-in it still trails modern flagships like the QiYi Clock.
  • Good overall control — turning resistance is not too high, making it comfortable for long training sessions without excessive finger fatigue.

Who might not like it

  • advanced solvers already used to top-tier clocks (QiYi, high-end LingAo mods) expecting the same feel;
  • cubers specifically looking for a fully magnetic design with magnets in the gears and dials as well as the pins;
  • anyone who wants an uncompromising flagship for records and is not limited by budget.
