5x5x5 cube facts and solving instructions
The Professor's Cube (also known as the V-Cube 5) is a variation of the Rubik's Cube with dimensions of 5x5x5 and 25 small squares on each side. Solving this puzzle shares many similarities with solving the 3x3x3 cube as well as the 4x4x4 cube.
The cube's surface has 98 pieces: 8 corner cubes, 36 edge cubes, and 54 inner fields (48 movable and 6 fixed centers).
There are numerous methods for solving the 5x5x5 cube, such as solving it like a 3x3x3 cube (starting from the center), layer by layer solving, the reduction method (starting from the edges and finishing at the center), and others.
The 5x5x5 cube was invented by Udo Krell and first released by Uwe Meffert in 1981. The Ideal Toys company, which initially popularized the 5x5x5 cube, marketed it under the name "Rubik's Illusion." The name "Professor's Cube" only became widespread in the 1990s.
